Canoe On the Run in McHenry

This is by far DC's most well kept secret, still, though they've been around for more than 15 years. Ambiance, food, location, access... feels like a mountain resort cafe should feel. The menu is excellent, variable and fresh. Our favorite lake eats location. Indoor and outdoor seating (great when the weather accommodates). Great music choices. Well decorated interior and we'll placed in the lake scenery to make you feel like you are actually at a lake resort. If I could give 6 stars I would. No lake view, but that's almost a plus. You should visit.

The service was extremely slow with only 3 people in line to order. They make everything before taking the next order. Turkey and bacon sandwich was average. The chili was very good. They forgot to put chicken on the chicken and fruit salad..

I wouldve given it 5 stars if they gluten free bread and choices. It's so odd that they didnt! I had to take what wouldve been a sandwich and put it in an omelette, which worked but there was no flavor added. And after we spent $60 in breakfast, the owner wanted to charge me $3 when I went back up to the counter for a tiny bit of goat cheese to add some flavor!!! So weird. Not very accommodating to the consumer. The lattes are delicious though.

I had a roast beef and baby Swiss sandwich on a chibatta roll, cup of chilli, and both were delicious. I would definitely return for lunch.

This is a a great place to stop for a coffee and pastries. The staff was very nice and food was good.

Do recommend. Coffee was weak, but it’s still a pretty good roast, I might just prefer stronger coffee. Inside is beautiful, great atmosphere, fast service, friendly staff. Breakfast burrito was OK, I’m assuming it was the bought tortilla that has way too much basil in it. Bacon was cheap which was surprising because all the other ingredients were of high quality: fresh tomatoes and spinach. Although the egg was probably not fresh as well based on how little time it took them to make it. Whatever the sauce on it was was DELICIOUS. I only gave 3 because this place could be MUCH better with little effort.

Worst restaurant I can ever remember. Soups and chili were sour and they would not take them back or refund anything. Bread was stale and my teeth could not penetrate my son’s corn dog which was nearly petrified from age. Went home to make lunch for my family to prevent us from getting sick.

Slow, 30 minutes to get a cup of coffee. I like their food but it's always slow.

Very tasty sandwiches and wraps. A good variety of ingredients that all tasted fresh. They make it easy to customize your order. Try "The Wrap" or a daily special. Great outdoor seating for a beautiful day.

Let me start by saying Canoe on the Run is one of my favorite restaurants in Deep Creek. They have a great, well-rounded menu to choose from along with an extensive daily specials board. The reason why I am giving this review only 3 stars is because today and many times before, I have had to wait an hour or more for 2 café sandwiches and a cup of soup. I understand when large parties walk in just before a me, that there will be an expected wait but today was a little excessive. Again, the food is GREAT! I highly suggest checking it out.

This place is excellent! The food is top notch and so fresh. The pastries are simply remarkable and the staff was wonderful.They were very helpful and gave good recommendations. The were polite, swift and served with a smile.If you aren't happy dining here then there's no pleasing you.

It's very good, and a fun menu. It's not FAST food, so be prepared to hang out a minute!

Our favorite for breakfast. We bring our dachshund and sit out on the deck, happy beautiful place. Excellent coffee and we like the granola, oatmeal + breakfast sandwiches.

Food was good. Service is a little different, but it has almost a coffee house vibe. Good place for breakfast or lunch if you have some time.

Fantastic lunch spot. Delicious soups made from scratch. Great sandwiches and salads all made fresh. The baked goods are unbelievably tasty. Menu specials change frequently. (They also serve breakfast, but we haven't tried it.) The outside eating area is very nice.

Food was good. The bread and baked goods were especially good. Casual counter service restaurant.

Solid spot for coffee and breakfast. The line does get long due to ordering at the counter (no table service) but it moves, and staff is very nice. Baked goods are delicious - get the chocolate turtle cookie if available. They even wrapped each half of my breakfast burrito to-go!

Usually love the food but recently ordered 2 quesadillas chicken ones, pick up the food absolutely no chicken in them when it was written on the receipt for the order to follow. Go back in they just give me freezing cold chicken in a to go container. Dont enjoy having to rip apart the quesadilla and tear it to place the stuff that should have cane on it already and especially ice cold chicken was upset by it because I've waited sooo long for them to open and had to being my own brocolli to put on the Quesadilla. They do broccoli but they're always conveniently out unfortunately because broccoli ones are my fav. It was just upsetting for my first time back there since all the covid shut down stuff. And then still had to pay full price at that for just a cheese and potato quesadilla.

Really good soup and sandwiches and salad. They are off the beaten path and make really good food. I offered to put a menu and advertising brochures in my rental house but they said they didn't want any more customers they were already busy. LOL. That's Garrett County for you.

Not impressed at all, went in for a couple of sandwiches to take to the park and they were sub par. They forgot to add condiments and the were nothing special. I was hoping for more after reading some good reviews.unimpressed to say the least.

Was at the resort for the weekend and went around looking for breakfast and Canoe on the Run was the closest and great place to go to. They have many selections of sandwiches and salads here. We came in for the breakfast sandwich on croissant and the breakfast wrap specials in the morning which was excellent. The food here was very fresh and their coffee is good. Definitely recommend if you're around the area

Breakfast sandwich on croissant with ham and cheddar paired with Cafe Mocha was a great start to the day. Chocolate chip cookie was crunchy on outside, moist center, and it tasted great dipped in the Cafe Mocha. Chocolate chip muffin wasn't as moist as I expected, but still tasty. Breakfast burrito had a nice kick and healthy twist, but should have been served hotter. Bread used for breakfast sandwich was not toasted, making it a little mushy. Coffee is piping hot, which was a nice change since most coffee houses serve coffee near lukewarm. Cute place to pop in before a day on the mountain.

Good coffee drinks and tasty sandwiches. I've never even opened a menu. I always order off the chalk board. Soup is always on point also.
